James Ray Cannon, Sr., 80, of Lake Charles died Monday, Apr. 4, 2022 in a local care facility.

He was born in Lake Charles where he lived all of his life. During his younger years, he played football and ran track for Lake Charles High School. He began his career at Firestone as a carpenter and later worked as a project manager at the Hackberry Oil Reserve and Isle of Capri Casino, where he retired six years ago. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Leigh Buggs and husband Frankie of Baytown, Texas; son, James Cannon, Jr. and wife Megan of Lake Charles; brother, Howard Louis Cannon of Moss Bluff; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria LeGros Cannon; daughter, Angela Lynn Cannon; parents, Howard and Estelle Cannon; and one brother.

His funeral service was held Monday, Apr. 11, at University Baptist Church. Father Paul Jussen officiated. Burial followed in Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
