Based on the May 16 primary election statewide results for the Congressional race, U.S. Senator candidates Gary Crockett and “Jamie” Davis will face off for the Democratic spot. John Fleming and Julia Letlow are in the GOP runoff. The majority voted “no” to all five amendments.
In Cameron Parish, Jamie Davis received 38% or 39 of 103 votes. Gary Crockett, 32% and Nicholas “Nick” Albares, 30%.
Republican Senator’s Race
Julia Letlow received 344 of 707 votes for 49%, John John Fleming received 198 votes, 28%. Percentage of votes cast for “Bill” Cassidy, 20 and Mark Spencer finished with 4%.
Amendments
Three hundred fifty-two people voted “yes” to authorize the addition or removal of positions in the unclassified state civil service by law. “No” votes totaled 509.
Forty-one percent of Cameron Parish said “yes” to grant St. George community school system the authority to operate a school system. It was a “no” for 509 voters.
On funding a teacher pay raise by paying down debt of the Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana, it was 50% in favor of and 50% against. Voting yes, 452 and voting no, 444.
To provide authority for a parish to classify and authorize exemptions relative to ad valorem taxes, 383 said “yes” in Cameron Parish and 501 said “no.”
To change the mandatory retirement age of judges from 70 to 75, 297 Cameron Parish voters voted “yes” and 594 voted “no.”
School Board Propositions No. 1 and No. 2 were renewed for ten years with 545 voters in favor and 338 against and 536 for and 342 against, respectively.
Ambulance Service Dist. No. 2 Mills Renewal passed with 564 “yes” votes and 179 “no” votes.
