George Shove

George Elery Shove of Hackberry was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend. He left this world too soon on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, after his yearlong battle with cancer.

He was born to George “Bynum” Shove and Margaret Toups Shove on Jan. 5, 1957. George was a graduate of Hackberry High School and had recently retired from Citgo Refinery. George loved his family and his cattle; he was a friend to anyone in need. He took pride in being “Tractor” to his grandchildren and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Bynum Shove.

Left to cherish is memory are his wife of 38 years, Gayla M. Shove; daughters, Malorie Knox (Kody), Lori Beth Denison (John Ray), Madison Pickle (Jordan); mother, Margaret Ann Shove; sisters, Katherine “Bussy” Fontenot (Buddy) and Jeanne “Bitsy” Primeaux (Blake); grandchildren, Slade, Kase, Luke, Sophie, Saige, Saylie, Stella, Sawyer (and future baby “John Boy” Denison). He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss him greatly.

Funeral services will be in the Hackberry Community Center on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Monte Rowse officiating. Burial will follow in Hackberry Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation was held Wednesday in the Hackberry Community Center from 5 until 8 p.m. and will resume Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.
