Gene “G.R.” Rene Stutes, 79, of Sweetlake, passed died Saturday, Apr. 20, 2024.

He was born in Crowley. He was a 1963 graduate of LaGrange High School and a longtime member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 106. He had a successful career spanning over 50 years in various industries across the United States.

He was a skilled commercial fisherman, owning and operating multiple shrimp boats.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Stutes; children, Gina Lack (Jackie), Jessica Fisher (Sean), Taylor Stutes (Caitlin), Sadie Stutes (fiancé Nathan), stepchildren Casey Caudill, Kelly Budd, Tory Caudill (Tiffany), brother David Stutes; sisters, Mona Duhon and Sylvia Murrell; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phorbus and Delta Stutes; and one sister.

Funeral service will be held at J. E. Hixson & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday, Apr. 25, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Grandlake-Sweetlake Community Cemetery.
