The 18th Annual Cameron Fishing Festival is set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6. The event sponsored by the Cameron Lions Club, Venture Global LNG, Cameron LNG, Cameron Parish Police Jury, Talbot, Carmouche & Marcello will again be held at the Grand Chenier Park on the Mermentau River in Grand Chenier.
Fishing begins at 12:00 AM Friday, Aug. 5, in the offshore and bay divisions. The weigh station opens at 3 p.m. for all divisions.
Onshore activities will include lots of food and live music, provided by the The Teardrops, Little Chenier Playboyz, Leroy Thomas, Layne Touchet Band and Beau Young Band. on Saturday.
For the children, there will be a games, slides, fairy tale characters, face painting and fun.
Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday. The Festival closes at 10 p.m. each night. The weigh station closes at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday, with fishing awards announced at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Gate fees are $7 Friday, $10 Saturday, or $15 for a two-day pass. Children 12 and under get in free.
Proceeds from the Festival help fund the Cameron Lions Club’s scholarship, eye care, and other charitable programs.
