Cameron Parish has recorded its first COVID-19 death, with the possibility of a second, as of Wednesday, Aug. 19. There have been 174 positive cases reported since the outbreak began, an increase of three over last week. The two week incidence has dropped again, from 229.62 at the end of July to 186.57 per 100,000 for the period ending Aug. 12.
The percent of positive tests has gone up though, from 9.3 percent July 30 to Aug. 5 to 20 percent the week of Aug. 6-12, a 115 percent increase. It is now in the moderately high range.
As Cameron Parish students returned to school Friday, Aug. 14, one student was reported the next day to be positive for COVID-19. “The Cameron Parish School Board followed all necessary protocol when notifying parents,” said Superintendent Charley Lemons.
