Response from Parish Administrator Katie Armentor to the announcement by FEMA of 90/10 Hurricane Laura cost share:
Cameron Parish Administrator Katie Armentor said the announcement dramatically changes the Parish’s share of recovery costs, cutting the local costs in half. “The Parish will save a quarter of a million dollars in debris removal costs alone, allowing general fund money to be used toward improvement projects and hazard mitigation projects to help prevent or reduce damage from future storms, instead of just repairing what was damaged or lost,” she said. “For example, now we can fix roads and add improvements, elevation, etc., instead of just patching damaged spots. This changes our approach completely. Before we could only focus on getting back to normal, now we can look toward improvements and economic development opportunities.”
