Evelyn Schultz

Evelyn Elaine Schultz, born in Lake Charles on Sep. 13, 1946, daughter of the late Jim Mervyn and Betty June (Greathouse) Young, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at the age of seventy-eight.

Elaine, a graduate of Grand Lake High School, attended Sowela Technical College. She was an active member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, where she was a member of the catholic daughters and a Eucharistic Minister. Elaine was co-owner of Mud Bug Treasures in the ‘70s and worked as a secretary for La Tex Rubber. She later managed the optometry department at Sam’s Club.

Known for her green thumb, she enjoyed tending to her daylilies and potted plants. Her greenhouse was always full. In her younger years she loved to dance. She enjoyed music, especially Elvis Presley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and grandson, Jarrett Scott Nunez.

Survivors are her loving and devoted husband, Ron Schultz; children, Felisha Nunez (Scott), and Brett Schultz (Kelly Kindred); former daughter-in-law, Suzanne Schultz; siblings, Sylvia Poimboeuf (Charles), Mike Young, and Ida Frantz (Lowell). Her greatest honor was to be Nana to her grandchildren, Emily Gilmore (Justin), Samantha Schultz, Evan Schultz (Casey), Ellie Nunez and Kane Nunez, and three great grandchildren, Kai, Cora and Charlie.

A Mass of Christian burial was held in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m. with Monsignor James Gaddy, Celebrant. Burial followed in Sweetlake Grand Lake Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation beganSunday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 4 until 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation resumed in the church on Monday at 8 a.m. Pallbearers assisting in her service were Evan Schultz, Kane Nunez, Justin Gilmore, Marcus Young, Mark Broussard and Chad Tregle.
