Elmer Peshoff

Elmer Lynn Peshoff, 90. died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Cameron. Elmer began shrimping as a young man and continued throughout his life making a good living for his family. In 2012, he was honored to be named King Fur XLII at the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival for his contributions to the shrimping industry in Cameron Parish.

He was a Deacon at Cameron First Baptist Church. He and his wife Nelta moved back to Cameron after the devastation of Hurricane Rita; but a few short years later, Hurricane Ike forced them to leave Cameron and move to Lake Charles. He then became a member of Tom Hebert Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nelta Saltzman Peshoff; daughters; Sherry Peshoff, Glenda (Lenard) Jinks, and Renetta (Marvin) Trahan; a son, Kirk (Tammy) Peshoff; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martial and Lily Wolfe Peshoff; four brothers; two sisters; and one grandson, Kirk Lynn “Bozo” Sorrells.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 7, at The Vineyard Church with Rev. Lee Whitley officiating. Burial followed in the Cameron First Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
