Edmond Lee “Popeye” Deshotel, born in Hackberry, died on Thursday, Mar. 17, 2022, at the age of 83.

He retired from the maintenance department at McNeese State University.

He is survived by his daughters, Elgina Manuel (Stephen), Geneva Guillory (Kevin), and Rhonda Suire (Joseph); five grandchildren; siblings, John Deshotel, Paul “Red” Deshotel, Sr., Kenneth “KO” Moore, and Beulah Berry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Annie Mae (Moore) Deshotel; and four siblings.

A Mass of Christian burial was held in St. John Vianney of Bell City Monday, Mar. 21. Rev. John Payne was Celebrant. Burial followed in Hayes Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.
