Barbara Landry

Barbara Ann Badon Landry, 87, entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born on July 1, 1936 in Orange, Texas to Alpha and Agnes Romero Badon.

They later moved to Johnson Bayou, where she was raised with her ten siblings. At a very young age her parents instilled in her to always do a hardworking honest job. From picking cotton as a child, to nursing with Dr. Cecil Clark, to cleaning offices and homes for the Jones Law Firm, and to her last job as Supervisor of Housekeeping at South Cameron Hospital, her work was impeccable. As a testament to her work ethic, her co-workers always commented on what a wonderful example she was and how much they learned from her.

She met and married the love of her life, Johnny Landry in Cameron, where they raised their six children. You could always find her in the morning, reading her Bible. This is a legacy she has left behind to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband; her two sons, Ronald “Ronnie” Jackson, Vernon “Bubbie” Jackson; her granddaughter, Jennifer George; and her grandson, Ronald “Lil Ronnie” George; her five brothers, Shirley Badon, Martin “Blue” Badon, Ray “Cobet” Badon, Lloyd Badon and Jim Badon; her three sisters, Jeanette Trahan, Irene Trahan and Evelyn Cormier.

She is survived by her loving children, Barbara “Jeannie” George (David), Susan Beard (Terry), Sharon Labove (Jimmy), and John “Lil Joe” Landry III (Vida); her sisters, Stella Stoute (C.J.), Alice Broussard (Sterling); and her sister-in-law, Gloria Badon; a very special friend, Carolyn Richard whom she loved as her own daughter; eleven grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel, Rusty, Candie, Tabatha, Jodi, Justin, Jacob, Teressa, Jason, Mindy, Jamie; twenty-two great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 12 Noon on Monday, Aug. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole. Father Charles McMillin served as Celebrant. Burial followed in Our Lady Star of the Sea Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation was held at Johnson Funeral Home, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6, with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. lead by Jennifer Jones. Visitation resumed on Monday morning at the funeral home at 9 a.m. and continued until leaving in procession to the church at 11 a.m.

The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to Amy Carpenter and Danielle Schmitt, with Christus Hospice, for their compassionate care in her final days, and also to Drs. Asif Nisar, Joseph Galati, and Benjamin Fontenot for their many years of exceptional medical care.
