MINUTES

The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission held its Regular Session on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Cameron Prairie Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. The meeting was called to order at 1:56 p.m. by Chairperson Carolyn Miller, who led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the opening prayer.

COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Carolyn Miller, Chairman; Michele Long, Secretary/Treasurer; Geralyn Myers; Mary Johnson

ABSENT: Vicki Little, Vice Chairman; Joe Ann Labove; Susan Boudreaux

GUESTS: None

PUBLIC COMMENT:  None

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Pending draft minutes of the previous meeting were distributed to all board members via email prior to the meeting. A motion to approve the April 16, 2026 minutes as presented was made by Geralyn Myers, seconded by Carolyn Miller, and passed unanimously. The approved minutes will be published in the Cameron Pilot, the official paper of record.

CORRESPONDENCE:  LOS Birders thank you for donation for their spring meeting dinner. Louisiana Office of Tourism submission approval for the Welcome to West Cameron Parish Beaches. A motion to approve mailing brochures to various tourism organizations was made by Carolyn Miller, seconded by Mary Johnson, and passed. Michele Long recused herself from the vote.

TREASURER’S REPORT: A motion to approve the 2026 updated April financial report as presented was made by Geralyn Myers, seconded by Mary Johnson, and passed unanimously.

REVIEW AND PAYMENT OF BILLS: None

OLD BUSINESS:

Ratify Recurring Charges:  A motion to approve the recurring charges for the Cameron Pilot & Google Workspace was made by Michele Long, seconded by Geralyn Myers, all in favor, motion carried.

Calendar of Events:

Motion to amend the previously approved Cameron Prairie Wildlife Refuge Family Fishing Festival sponsorship from bottled water to a newspaper advertisement sponsorship in the amount of $178.50 was made by Michele Long, seconded by Geralyn Myers, all in favor, motion carried.

Board discussed ongoing plans for the NACo Closing Event in New Orleans July 20, 2026.

A motion to approve the purchase of promotional items from Work Designs in the amount of $9159.60 was made by Mary Johnson, seconded by Geralyn Myers, all in favor, motion carried.

Website & Social Media:

A motion to authorize Michele Long to sign contracts on behalf of the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission and by her signature, enter into any and all contractual obligations on behalf of the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission with Graham Group and Louisiana Office of Tourism for CMP Marketing was made by Geralyn Myers, seconded by Carolyn Miller, all in favor, motion carried.

Cameron Prairie Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center: The board discuss the need to create a strategic plan to assist the Visitor Center daily schedule.

NEW BUSINESS:

The Board will maintain its focus on the five strategic goals identified in the 2026–2030 Cameron Parish Tourism Strategic Plan. Commissioners are requested to designate a specific objective and corresponding implementation measures for which they will assume a leadership role in 2026.

Brochure: The Board continues to collaborate with Graham Group on the development and design of the new Cameron Parish Tourist Commission brochure.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Ethics Training and Prevention of Sexual Harassment Training: Due by December 31st  

NEXT MEETING: A motion to schedule the next meeting for Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Cameron Prairie Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center was made by Geralyn Myers, seconded by Michele Long, and passed unanimously.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn at 3:35 p.m. was made by Michele Long, seconded by Mary Johnson, and passed unanimously.
