Hornets, Mustangs battle in close game

On Friday, Mar. 21, the Grand Lake Hornets and Hackberry Mustangs played each other in non district action. The Mustangs traveled to the east side of Cameron Parish with hopes of beating their parish rival.

The Mustangs would get on the board first in the top of 1st inning with a 2-0 lead but the Hornets quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring 3 runs. Hackberry would tie it up in the top of the 2nd. However Grand Lake scored three more in the bottom half of the inning. Hackberry took a one run lead going into the bottom of the 7th in hopes to hold off Grand Lake. The Hornets tied the game up and sent it into extra innings where they would walk off the Mustangs and hang on to win a wild game.

Batting Stats

For Grand Lake: Law Faulk was 3-4, Kasen Quinn was 1-3, Rylan Young was 3-4 with 2 RBIs, Zac Manuel was 1-4 with an RBI, Noah Broussard was 1-3, Tyson Smith was 1-1, and Colton Maynard was 2-5 with an RBI.

For Hackberry: Derek Murphy was 2-6 with an RBI, Lane Gray was 2-5 with 2 RBIs, Madden Spicer was 1-4, Walker Poole was 1-3, Tripp Bunch was 1-5, Layton Richard was 1-4 with 3 RBIs, and Jacob Tilotta was 1-4 with 2 RBIs.

Pitching Stats

For Grand Lake: Kasen Quinn went 2.0 innings and recorded 2 strikeouts. Zac Manuel went 2.1 innings and recorded 4 strikeouts. Jwill Sims went 1.2 innings and recorded 1 strikeout. Bransyn Mudd went 1.0 innings and recorded 1 strikeout. Rylan Young went 1.0 innings and recorded 2 strikeouts.

For Hackberry: Madden Spicer went 5.0 innings and recorded 5 strikeouts. Jacob Tilotta went 2.0 innings and recorded 2 strikeouts. Derek Murphy went 0.2 innings and recorded 1 strikeout.
