Oralia Benoit has been named South Cameron High School Teacher of the Year for High School.
Benoit is originally from Cameron but has resided in Lake Charles for the past 20 years. She graduated from South Cameron High School and earned a BA in Spanish Education from McNeese State University.
She has been in the education system for 37 years and has been teaching at South Cameron High for 24 years. She teaches high school Spanish as well as elementary Spanish and Spanish Music. She is also the sponsor for the Sr. and Jr. Beta Clubs at SC as well as the Literary Rally Coordinator.
Amy Hammett has been named South Cameron High School Teacher of the Year for Middle School.
Hammett is a hands-on, minds-on Science and Gifted Education teacher at South Cameron High School. She has 19 years of experience in Education in Louisiana and Kansas public schools and designed and managed the STEM workforce pipelines of the State of Alabama.
She is the daughter of Henrietta Richard Bourque of Grand Chenier, a graduate of South Cameron High School, and of Donald James Bourque of Pecan Island, a graduate of Pecan Island High School. She spent her childhood in Grand Chenier, playing in the woods and in the water and fishing, crabbing, and cleaning ducks. She and her husband James from Belle Chasse raised their four boys on a farm in Kansas before returning South, where she loves doing real world STEM with her SCHS kids!
Brilee Little has been named South Cameron High School Teacher of the Year for Elementary.
Little is a proud 3rd and 4th grade ELA teacher at South Cameron High School. She is starting her 4th year of teaching.
She is married to Caleb Little and has two children, Saylor and Nash. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing her student’s growth in literacy and making reading engaging for students.
