The Cameron Parish School Board met in regular session on Monday, July 14. School board members present were: Marsha Trahan, Christi LaBove, R Mitchell Kelley, Vicki Kiffe, Telesha Bertrand, Sharon Picou and Randall Faulk. Absent was Joseph Delcambre.
Kathy Hayes presented the financial report, and said the parish was in good shape financially. She commended the members and school staff for working together and making the best out of what the parish has available.
Hayes addressed changes in the way the funds from school fundraisers will be handled. Funds will be entrusted to the school board, with the board paying the bills for those fundraisers and distributing proceeds for those fundraisers. Teachers will also be reimbursed for approved travel expenses through an ACH now.
Bids for the South Cameron High School Gymnasium were advertised beginning June 26. A pre-bid meeting will be held July 17, at the South Cameron High School, which is mandatory for all bidders. Bids will be received Thursday, July 31, at 2 p.m., 510 Marshall St. in Cameron.
2nd Bayou Rd. is used to access and read gauges. Once the road is no longer needed for that purpose, it is to be closed. The entity responsible for keeping up the road, asked the school board if they would be interested in taking over responsibility and maintenance, since it was touching school board property. All board members agreed there was no need to keep up the road, and would decline on the offer.
Superintendent Charley Lemons updated the members regarding the school board property located at 510 Marshall St., Cameron. The property has been appraised, but Lemons asked the members to consider hiring an architectural firm to inspect, and prepare a cost estimate for the renovation for the warehouse before putting the building up for sale.
Lemons also noted updates at school, including painting and refreshing some of the gymnasiums. The Grand Lake gymnasium suffered from some water intrusion, damaging some of the floor. While prepping for the repairs, termite damage was found in a small area. The area is being treated, and the damage will be repaired.
Revisions were accepted to the JCDA Student Code of Conduct.
