Poole received special stone

By Jeffra Wise DeViney

Jordan Poole, the new Marine Extension Agent for Cameron Parish, who replaced Kevin Savoie after all his years of service, recently met with our feature writer Loretta Theriot to receive a special gift. He sent her a message concerning her recent story on the El Nuevo Constante story featured a few weeks ago in the Pilot. His message read, in part: “This year I was able to help out with Marsh Maneuvers which is a 4-H camp with one day of the week held at Rockefeller Refuge. During a beach walk portion of the day, a presentation is given about the Constante. I was born and raised in Grand Lake, and this year was the first I had heard of the shipwreck.

“Now that I have read your article it has bridged a few of the gaps in relation to the presentation at Marsh Maneuvers.

Most noticeably the who’s who on the finding and the recovery efforts. I was fortunate enough to be educated by Lindsay Smythe at Grand Lake High School, making that connection very exciting.

“I wanted to reach out to you about the ballast stones that were offloaded at Crain Brothers’ dock. I am curious if there may be more ballast stones around the area. I would be interested in acquiring one to show the students during the presentation…”

Ms. Loretta’s response was to arrange to meet and give Jordan her ballast stone along with a packet of pictures/information in a special presentation on Thursday, Sept. 18 at the 3rd Thursday Luncheon held at T-Boys Cajun Grill to help further educate future Marsh Maneuvers students.
