Minutes
The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in Regular Session on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Cameron Parish Library, located at 10200 Gulf Hwy. in Grand Lake, La. The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Prayer was led by Ms. Dunaway and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Labove.
Commissioners Present: Stephanie Rodrigue, Chairman; Carolyn Miller, Vice Chairman; Mary Johnson, Treasurer; Patty Boudreaux, Secretary and JoeAnn Labove.
Absent: JoAnn Nunez
Guests: N/A
Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the Minutes of September 14, 2023 were approved as presented.
Correspondence: N/A
Treasurer’s Report: Ms. Johnson reviewed the YTD Financials for the month of September. Upon motion by Ms. Labove, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the financials were approved as presented. A request will be made by Ms. Rodrigue to use year-end 2023 figures for the 2024 Budget which will reflect the current level of promotion of Cameron Parish.
Payment of Bills: Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the recurring charges from The Dev Department in the amount of $774; two (2) Work designs Invoices of $1,151.70 and $3,903.68, plus an Invoice to Brown’s Food Center in the amount of $599.25 were approved as presented.
Old Business:
Creole Nature Trail – Seashell Collecting: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Labove, and carried, the official position of the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission is that “all are in favor of allowing the public to collect seashells”.
Trunk-R-Treat: Due to prior commitments, commissioners may not attend the event, however Halloween-themed items previously purchased will be stored for next year if no one is able to attend.
Promotional Items: Ms. Boudreaux mentioned that items purchased are in storage and includes – 250 Halloween Safety Coloring Books with Crayons and 250 Pumpkin Strobe Safety Lights; 1,000 Striped Totes and 1,000 Ink Pens. Ms. Rodrigue mentioned that 55 promotional items were requested for Vermilion Parish 4-H Junior Leaders for a Rutherford Beach cleanup on Veterans Day weekend, and 150 post-it-note pads for the Louisiana Autism Conference on October 25, 2023. Ms. Labove will bring 15 Halloween items to the Headstart School in Hackberry.
New Business:
Public Comment: N/A
Fur Festival Sponsorship & Promotion: Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, a $1,000 Bronze Sponsorship; a Full-page Color Advertisement in the Cameron Pilot; and a $1,500 Stipend to the Incoming Miss Cameron upon completion of her reign, was approved as presented. Ms. Rodrigue will request an increase in sponsorship level due to numerous promotional items provided to the festival events (i.e., Queen Bags with promos for Miss Cameron, Fur Queen and visiting queens; promos for Maryland Delegation in Cameron; Fur Fizz table promos; Gumbo Cookoff promo packets; Promos for Fur Festival Runners; promos for Dog Trials; parade throws for Assessor and Cameron Parish Police Jurors; as well as cups and beads purchased for Maryland Fur Festival).
Reports from Members: Ms. Miller would like to provide cooling towels and water for the Cameron Preservation Alliance – 8th Annual Sabine Pass Lighthouse Run in Holly Beach on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Upon motion by Ms. Miller, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the request was approved as presented.
Ms. Rodrigue mentioned that an advertisement by The Graham Group for “Lighthouse Bend” will be added to the tourist commission website soon.
Grand Isle – Peer Group: Ms. Rodrigue mentioned that a delegation from Cameron will be meeting with Jefferson Parish officials and will obtain information for us to plan a meeting with the stand-alone tourist commission for Grand Isle.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Grand Lake Library.
Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Labove, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 2:18 pm.
