PROCEEDINGS
March 21 2025
There was a regular meeting of Gravity Drainage District No. 8 at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2025, at the Grand Lake Waterworks Office.
PRESENT: Terry Smith, Monty Pearce, Tommy Arceneaux, Jake McCain
ABSENT: James Cox
GUESTS: Matt Crador, Ted Joanen, Sam Bordelon, Mitch Thomas
Matt Crador requested the board to conduct maintenance on the culverts in Lateral 32B, including replacing culverts at structures 1-4 and installing flaps on the culverts at structure 5. On the motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by Terry Smith and carried, the board voted unanimously to add the work order request to the agenda.
President Monty Pearce requested the board to add authority to hire an engineer to submit all necessary permits required to reroute a section of Lateral 32B directly to the outfall of Calcasieu Lake and fill in the abandoned section that slowed down the drainage. On the motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by Jake McCain and carried, the board voted unanimously to add it to the agenda.
President Monty Pearce requested the board to submit a work order request to clean Lateral 20D in Sweet Lake near Fruge Road. On the motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by Jake McCain and carried, the board voted unanimously to add it to the agenda.
On motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by Jake McCain and carried, the minutes of January 16, 2025, meeting are approved.
President Monty Pearce notified the board that their presence was requested at the Grand Lake Library on March’ 26th at 5:30p.m. for the Coastal Master Plan meeting. All residents of the district are encouraged to provide input on projects and discuss their priorities.
On motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by Terry Smith and carried, the February 2025 Finance Report was accepted by the board as presented by the Secretary.
President Monty Pearce announce that the drainage board intends to levy their 2026 Ad Valorem Tax at their meeting on May 15, 2025.
On motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by James Cox and carried, the board directed the Secretary to submit a work order requests to the Jury:
a clean lateral 20D in Sweet Lake
b. replace the culverts in Lateral 32B, including replacing culverts at structures 1-4 and installing flaps on the culverts at structure 5.
c. spray all laterals for routine maintenance
On motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by Terry Smith and carried, the board approved the following permits:
a. LCUP # 2250306 – Chrickie Investment – Pier and boathouse
On motion of Tommy Arceneaux, second by Terry Smith and carried, the board voted to hire an A&E firm to submit a permit application for the improvements to lateral 32B.
On motion of Monty Pearce, second by Terry Smith and carried, the meeting was adjourned.
