MINUTES
The Cameron Parish Beachfront Development District #1 Commission convened for its regular session on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Johnson Bayou Community Center. The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman Michele Long, who led the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairman Michele Long, Vice-Chairman Russell Badon, Commissioner/Secretary Cindy Snead, Commissioner Tammy Erbelding, and Commissioner B.J. Miller
ABSENT: None
GUESTS: None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A motion to approve the minutes of the March 10, 2025 meeting as presented was made by B.J. Miller, seconded by Russell Badon, and unanimously carried by the board.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None
FINANCIAL REPORT: A motion to approve the March 2025 financial report as presented was made by B.J. Miller, seconded by Russell Badon, and unanimously carried by the board.
OLD BUSINESS:
Ratify Recurring Charges: A motion to approve the recurring charges for the Cameron Pilot was made by B.J. Miller, seconded by Russell Badon, and unanimously carried by the board.
Holly Beach Subcommittee: The board again discussed the need for a Holly Beach Representative to serve as a Commissioner Designate for Cameron Parish Beachfront Development District #1. The representative must be a registered voter in Cameron Parish, attend all board meetings, and lead the Holly Beach subcommittee to work with the community on local projects and activities.
Love the Boot 2025 Report: The 2025 Love the Boot – Keep Cameron Beautiful Beach Cleanup was a resounding success, held in Cameron Parish Beachfront Development District #1 with cleanups at five key locations: Holly Beach, 5 Mile Stretch, Constance Beach, Gulf Breeze, Little Florida, and Mae’s Beach.
Total Volunteers: 178
Bags of Trash Collected: 256
The Johnson Bayou Recreation Center graciously hosted a post-cleanup luncheon, which was both delicious and greatly appreciated by all participants.
Volunteer Appreciation:
All volunteers received beach blankets and trash grabbers as thank-you gifts. In addition, the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission generously provided worker shirts, sunscreen/lip balm packs, and doggie bag dispensers.
Special Guests & Highlights:
The Whooping Crane Foundation attended to speak with volunteers about their conservation work.
The Audubon Aquarium made a special appearance to release 10 rehabilitated sea turtles back into the Gulf—an inspiring moment for all who attended.

The day reflected the strong spirit of community and commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Cameron Parish.
Beach Blvd. Protection Project: The Beach Blvd Maintenance Project is currently on hold due to the significant influx of sand from the Sand Replenishment Project on Holly Beach East. Additionally, with the upcoming start of the breakwater project, the potential impact on the coastline remains uncertain.
NEW BUSINESS:
2025 Project Goals-Commissioners are encouraged to reach out to the community for ideas.
Storage Unit: A motion to authorize Michele Long to lease a storage unit from Superior Storage for a period of one year was made by B.J. Miller, seconded by Russell Badon, and unanimously carried by the board.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Ethics Training and Prevention of Sexual Harassment Training are due by December 31, 2025.
Road & Bridges will begin charging for work asked for by various entities.

There being no further business, on the motion of B.J. Miller, seconded by Russell Badon, and unanimously carried by the board, the meeting was adjourned at 5:28 p.m.
