Johnson Bayou Teachers/Support Staff of the Year

Johnson Bayou’s High School Teacher of the Year is Scarlet Callicoatte.

Callicoatte, although new to Cameron Parish, has over 30 years in education. After graduating from LSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies, she went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction with a certification in Gifted Supervision. She sees education as more than a career; it has been her lifelong passion to inspire and equip today’s youth to be tomorrow’s leaders. Her approach to teaching incorporates more than simple book knowledge – she draws on everyday life experiences and world events as teaching opportunities to enable her students to not only grow academically, but personally, so they become the best versions of themselves.

She uses innovative approaches to make lessons engaging and meaningful … because she believes education should be fun! She prides herself on being approachable, always eager to listen, and she encourages every student to discover their own unique potential.

After three decades in education, Callicoatte’s goal remains unchanged: to inspire students to learn beyond the four walls of the classroom.

Johnson Bayou’s Middle School Teacher of the Year is Allison Romero.

Romero is the middle school ELA teacher for JBHS. Like her dad, she began her education at JBHS, and now has proudly returned to help educate students in her hometown. She is a graduate of McNeese State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology.

Although she never expected to become an educator, she enjoys how fulfilling the work is and strives to help students achieve new heights and encourage them to follow their dreams each day. This is her seventh year teaching middle school ELA at JBHS.

She is personally invested in how her students feel, how they are doing on a day-to-day basis, and in furthering their education beyond the time that they have them. She wants to inspire them to continue their education, become part of their community, and be successful in their future. She encourages them to learn the things needed to excel in school, as well as other learning opportunities that will spark their desire to expand their knowledge in a variety of different aspects.

As an educator, Romero aims to inspire students to read, learn, and discover, enabling them to reach their full potential and become successful, productive citizens within our community.

Johnson Bayou’s Elementary Teacher of the Year is Patricia Landry.

Landry is currently a third grade teacher with the passion for creative learning in the classroom. She is a 30 year veteran, serving 14 years in P.A.I.S.D and 16 in Cameron Parish.

She has taught many grade levels, including Kindergarten, third, fourth and fifth. Reflecting over her years of teaching, she is extremely proud of current and former students. She feels grateful and truly blessed to be a part of their growth in education as well as watching them become productive citizens. Her family has always supported her career.

Landry has been married for 45 years and has two wonderful sons, two gorgeous daughter-in-laws, and five beautiful grandchildren.

Johnson Bayou’s Support Person of the Year is Janna Trahan.

Trahan joined JBHS in 2013 as a bus driver, then came on as a paraprofessional while still maintaining the bus route. In 2019 she took on yet another role as bookkeeper/secretary. She keeps the school running smoothly every day.

Trahan has been married for 15 years and has four kids. She loves spending time with her four grandkids. The best part of her day is being with these amazing kids. They’ve become her second family, their smiles have a way of lifting her heart and making everything feel right again.
