James Kendell Burton, Jr., 85, of Sulphur, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2025.
He was born in Cameron. He worked for Shell Oil for 35 years and upon retirement, he bought a farm and started cattle ranching. He was a part of the Beauregard Cattleman’s Association where he was President from 2004-05. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Judith “Judie” Kay Landry Burton; two daughters, Janna Kaye Burton Elder of Sulphur and Joanie Burton Andrew of Katy, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Octavia and Rodney Guilbeau Sr.; father and stepmother, James K. Sr. and Katie Burton; sister, Rose Schram; sons-in-law, Carey Elder and Jim Andrew; along with his grandson, Kaplan Andrew.
A Celebration of life was held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 14, with Deacon Patrick LaPoint, Sr. officiating. Burial followed at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss.
