September 27, 2022
The Cameron Parish Port Harbor & Terminal District met in regular session on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the Port Board Building, Cameron, Louisiana at 5:00 o’clock p.m.
Present: Dwight Savoie, Tremayne Picou, Thomas Cox, Tim Dupont, Sheila Miller, Jimmy Brown
Absent: Howard Romero, Nat Griffith, Alfred Devall, Jennifer Picou, Nina Jones
Guests: Melissa Dupont, Bryon Richard – LGH, John Foret – Fenstermaker
Parish Agencies: Kim Montie, Port Director, Tianna Dunaway, Asst. Port Director, Tom Barrett, District Attorney, Butch Guidry- Cameron Parish Police Juror.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Brown.
Tim Dupont led the Pledge of Allegiance and James Brown and Dwight Savoie gave the invocation.
There was no public comment.
On the motion of Mr. Dupont, seconded by Mrs. Miller and carried the board approved the August 23, 2022 regular meeting minutes.
On the motion of Mr. Dupont seconded by Mrs. Miller and carried the board approved the treasurer’s report.
On the motion of Mr. Savoie, seconded by Mrs. Miller and carried the board approved payment of the September 2022 bills.
The Board reviewed the actuals and the budget.
There was no correspondence.
District Attorney, Tom Barrett, updated the board on the option to lease with Venture Global. Tom also informed the board that Venture Global will be working to get the 3 acres on Monkey Island currently owned by the U.S. Coast Guard transferred from the State to the Port.
Under Old Business, the board discussed the scope of work on the AOC Park.
On the motion of Mr. Savoie, seconded by Ms. Miller and carried the board approved the quote for the Fenstermaker Scope of Work on the AOC Park.
There was no new business.
Mrs. Kim Montie gave a staff report. She informed the board of an alliance group within the parish regarding communication for things that go on within the parish. Mrs. Kim informed the board about hosting two watershed researchers around the parish to do a study. She also let the board know about a workshop regarding the goal of this project which is to improve the resilience and sustainability of coastal communities. The workshop will be held at the seed center on October 11, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. She showed the board an actual drawing of the layout for the AOC Park. She also informed the board that there were 9 applicants for the park and grants are in process of being accepted until September 30th, and that there will be a meeting held on October 13, 2022 with the applicants only. She updated the board on the insurance policy for the park as well. The insurance policy for the AOC Park has a $20,000 premium. Mrs. Montie also updated the board on security as well as maintenance for the park. Ms. Montie informed the board about the US Coast Guard wanting to pull the navigation beacons out of the Mermentau River. The board stated that they were not in support of this. District Attorney Tom Barrett suggested that the board send a letter the legislatures expressing concerns regarding pulling the navigation beacons.
On the motion of Mr. Dupont, seconded by Mr. Picou, and carried, the board approved the increase for the insurance amount for the AOC Park.
The next regular meeting will be scheduled for October 25, 2022, at 5 p.m. at the Cameron Parish Port Building.
There being no further business and upon motion of Mr. Dupont seconded by Mr.Savoie and carried, the meeting was declared adjourned.
