MINUTES
The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in regular session on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Cameron Parish Courthouse – Judge’s Conference Room. The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Prayer was led by Ms. Johnson and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Labove.
Commissioners present were: Stephanie Rodrigue, Chairman; Patty Boudreaux, Secretary; Mary Johnson; JoAnn Nunez and JoeAnn Labove.
Absent: Tunie Dunaway, Vice Chairman; Carolyn Miller, Treasurer
Guests: Kim Montie, Cameron Parish Port Director
Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Nunez, and carried, the minutes of the October 13, 2022 meeting were approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report: In Ms. Miller’s absence, Ms. Boudreaux reviewed the monthly financials for October. The commission received its annual revenue-sharing from the State of Louisiana in the amount of $6,534 and expenses for a recent order of promotional items and bagged-lunch for birders was paid. Upon motion by Ms. Labove, seconded by Ms. Boudreaux, and carried, the financials were approved as presented, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part thereof.

Old Business:
Ms. Rodrigue reported that she continues to be notified that DevDept is working on the visitcameronparish.org website. A request will be made for the project to be completed by January.
Ms. Rodrigue presented three (3) additional TripChat proposals of $5,000 for 10 points-of-interest; $7,500 for 15 points-of-interest; and $10,000 for 20 points-of-interest. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Labove, and carried, the commission agreed to allow Ms. Rodrigue to contract for 15 points-of-interest at $7,500 annually.
Ms. Boudreaux presented samples of all new promotional items received. Also presented were items and pricing for visiting festival royalty. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the commission approved an order for 500 lip balms, 500 compact mirrors and 2,000 hair ties, which will be ordered by Ms. Boudreaux. Ms. Boudreaux will create and maintain a report of promotional items distributed and sponsorships.
Ms. Boudreaux will call to get information regarding the LOS birder event held in Cameron Parish in October.
New Business:
Ms. Rodrigue presented a request for the Louisiana Fur & Wildlife Festival at the same donation level as last year, which was as follows: sandwich trays for 2 receptions, $1,500 for Miss Cameron Scholarship, $1,500 Sponsorship and cost of the Full-page Ad in the Cameron Pilot. Upon motion by Ms. Nunez, seconded by Ms. Labove, and carried, the request was approved as presented.
Ms. Rodrigue asked that we consider for discussion, at our next meeting, manning a booth from 1-3:00 p.m. on the Saturday of the festival, and provide promotional items.
Ms. Rodrigue presented a request to join other parish entities and setup a table on December 20th at 5:30 p.m. for “Christmas in Cameron on Capitol Hill”, an outdoor parish-wide Christmas event in the courthouse square. Upon motion by Ms. Nunez, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the commission authorized Ms. Boudreaux to order child-related promotional items for this event. Ms. Boudreaux will obtain pricing for a tent wrapped with Cameron Parish Tourist Commission logo to be used at various outdoor events and report back to the group at the next scheduled meeting.
Ms. Montie discussed the creation of the Cameron Alliance, with a monthly meeting held at the Cameron Parish Policy Jury meeting room, with representatives from all areas of the parish that want to share information to their counterparts, with a goal of getting accurate information and speaking with one voice. The next meeting will be held on November 15, 2022 at 8:00 a.m.
Ms. Rodrigue presented a request from Katie Armentor, Cameron Parish Administrator, to fund the restoration of three (3) community signs that have not yet been repaired or replaced since Hurricane Laura: Johnson Bayou, Hackberry, and Creole. Cheniere Energy will donate $2,500 to the Cameron Lions Club to be used specifically toward the repairs. Some brick-frame structures are in-tact and only the sign portion needs replacement. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Labove, and carried, the request to move forward with funding of the balance of the repairs, over and above the $2,500, was approved as presented.
Ms. Labove informed the group that she had recovered and reported an injured red-tailed hawk. Wildlife authorities transported the injured bird to a rehab facility in Youngsville, the closest to our area.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 3:30 p.m., prior to the Christmas on Capitol Hill event in the Cameron Courthouse Square.
Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Labove, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 2:08 p.m.
