Cameron Parish Recreation District 5 held its regularly scheduled meeting on January 16, 2025 at 6:00 pm.
The meeting began with the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance led by Jacob Babcock.
The invocation was led by Kris Howerton.
Board President Tremayne Picou called the meeting to order and on roll call the following members were present: Thomas Cox, Kris Howerton, and Jacob Babcock.
Absent: Kayla Conner
Employees in attendance were Lisa Ledano and Vickie Pickett
Guests present: Mr. John Duhon, Kirk Quinn, Perry Taylor, Cherie Myers, Danny Myers and Tracie Broussard.
A draft of the minutes of the previous meeting, November 22, 2024, was distributed to all board members via electronic mail prior to the meeting. Thomas Cox made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Jacob Babcock seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Public comment: none.

Public comment – Mr. Taylor commented that what he’s hearing from the community is that the majority wants the swimming pool back; Mr. Picou explained the FEMA claim and that if any changes or repairs are made to the existing facility, FEMA will start the claim process over to adjust what was changed or repaired; Mr. Duhon confirmed Mr. Taylor’s comment about the pool; Mr. Quinn questioned if a cost analysis has ever been done dating to before hurricane Laura; Mrs. Myers questioned if there is a recreation room in the plans for the new facility; Mr. Myers stated that he doesn’t think an increase to 9 mills would bring enough funds to support a 4 million dollar facility; Mr. Myers stated that he’s received push back on the proposed gym; Mrs. Myers stated to build back what the community previously had.
Remove the tax proposition from the election ballot scheduled for March 29, 2025 – Jacob Babcock made a motion to remove the tax proposition from the election ballot scheduled for March 29, 2025. Kris Howerton seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Public comment: none.
The board members present reviewed the invoices for the months of November and December 2024. Thomas Cox made a motion to approve the bills. Jacob Babcock seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Public comment: none.
The financial statement for the months of November and December 2024 were distributed to all board members via electronic mail prior to the meeting. Kris Howerton made a motion to accept the financial statement as presented. Thomas Cox seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Public comment: none.
With no further business to discuss, Thomas Cox made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Jacob Babcock seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Public comment: none.
