The Grand Lake Hornets were victorious on senior night over the Oberlin Tigers last Thursday by a final score of 38-12.
The Hornets had a few starters out due to minor injuries, but they should be healthy for this week’s playoff game against Montgomery. However, some of the younger Hornets got a lot of valuable playing experience to prepare them for the future, and they certainly performed very well.
Senior running back Charles McFarland returned from an injury, and played extremely well and contributed a lot to the Hornets offensive performance.
Lastly, we want to give a shout out to the coaching staff and players at Oberlin High School for never giving up and finishing out the football season despite a lot of adversity on and off the field. For those who may not know, the Tigers were extremely close to losing the football program altogether as injuries and lack of participation plagued the program this year as well as an unexpected coaching change midway through the season. However thanks to the assistant coaches and several community members that raised the awareness and importance of having the football program, they were able to get a few more kids interested and finished out this season. The future looks bright for the program as they only graduate four seniors, but they will be gaining several incoming freshmen, which will certainly help their depth.
