Hackberry Boys & Girls basketball are district champs!

By Jake McCoy

Last Thursday, Feb. 12, the Hackberry Mustangs, and Lady Mustangs traveled to Beauregard Parish to take on Singer in the District Championship. Both the boys and girls came home with district titles! The girls finished a perfect undefeated district slate after their 40-19 blowout victory over Singer, which was their first district championship since 2013. In fact current Assistant Coach, Destiny Seay was a senior on that 2013 District championship team that also went undefeated in District play!

Lady Mustangs Head Coach Stephen Brown sent in a comment referring to the District Championship “The girls have worked hard the past three years and this is the result so far. Hopefully we aren’t done with this program and it keeps improving.”

Assistant Coach Destiny Seay sais “Personally I’m very proud of each and every girl on the team. They set a goal at the beginning of the year, worked extremely hard, and achieved it! It was definitely a full circle moment being able to be there and witness them win and take home the district title.”

The Lady Mustangs enter the Class C playoffs as the #9 seed, and they will travel to #8 Reeves on Monday Feb. 23, with the game starting at 6 p.m.

The Hornets beat Singer in an absolute thriller 43-42 to claim back to back District Championships under Head Coach Jordan Carlin and Assistant Coach Dale Jinks.

The two seniors for the Mustangs are #4 Taylor Broxton and #23 Lane Gray.
