Gibbs to be guest speaker

The 13th Annual A Night to Remember fundraiser is being held on Saturday, Mar. 28, at VFW Post 9854 at 2292 La. 109 S., in Vinton with this year’s theme of “Weapons at the Ready.”

This annual fundraising event is for Home for Heroes Veterans’ Homeless Shelter – A City of Refuge.

The shelter, started in 1986, will also be celebrating its 40th anniversary of being in operation.

The evening is packed full of events with a buffet by Becky’s Catering, Live, Silent and Bucket Auctions, 50/50, raffles and much more. Some of this year’s highlights are Master of Ceremonies, Brian Everette, Ceth Talbot music, Hal and Sue McMillin auctioneers, Fallen Warrior Ceremony and Guest Speaker, Byron “Coach” Gibbs.

Each year veterans from different war eras are recognized. This year the veterans who will be honored are those who served this country or those deployed overseas but not in a war zone such as Kosovo, Grenada, Panama, Germany to mention only a few or was in a non-war zone during any of the past wars and/or conflicts. This also includes the National Guard who may have been deployed within the United States and/or its territories. Also to be recognized are those who served state side but were ready for deployment at a moment’s notice as well as those who were not recognized during the past years. They will also recognize any Gold Star Families.

Tickets are on sale at $50 each, there are also available reserved and sponsorships tables. Contact the shelter for more information or to purchase your tickets.
