Members of the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission attended the annual Louisiana Travel Summit at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles held Aug. 26-28.
This event offers the largest educational opportunity for tourism professionals each year with support from the Louisiana Office of Tourism. A keynote address was given by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser.
There were many featured top educational speakers from around the country as well as workshops addressing the latest industry trends. Attendees were given opportunities to network with other tourism professionals and given tourism themed tours.
One of the tour excursions allowed attendees to experience “Louisiana’s Outback” with an unforgettable journey blending wildlife, culture, and cuisine! It started at Port Wonder for interactive exhibits and a tasty bite of local boudin before venturing into the Creole Nature Trail. Along the way, they could spot alligators, birds, and more as they explored the refuge, boardwalk, and scenic Pintail Wildlife Drive—a true Southwest Louisiana adventure.
Another scheduled tour was a stroll through the streets of downtown Lake Charles, where art, music, and creativity come alive around every corner. Participants could enjoy a hands-on craft at the 1911 Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center before setting off on a street art stroll featuring colorful murals, photo ops, and lively stops at local favorites like Panorama Music House and Luna. The tour wrapped up with free time to shop, explore, and soak in the downtown charm.
The third tour was an opportunity to savor the flavors of Southwest Louisiana on a delicious journey through Lake Charles enjoying a tasting and tour at Salt Revival Oyster Co., biting into legendary boudin at Famous Foods, and raising a glass at Crying Eagle Brewing. It was an afternoon filled with fresh seafood, Cajun classics, and local craft brews—Louisiana’s culinary scene at its finest!
