he source of this past weekend’s bomb threat at the Venture Global CP2 construction site is still under investigation, according to David French, Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Danielle Doxey reported the incident to Louisiana State Police Hazardous Materials Hotline on Sunday, Mar. 29, according to a report from Roy Jones, Louisiana State Police.
Venture Global immediately activated established emergency response protocols, Jess Szymanski, Venture Global, wrote in an email to the Cameron Pilot.
Jones wrote in an email to the Cameron Pilot that the threat was written on the inside door of a portable restroom located at the Venture Global LNG CP2 facility. A Baker Construction safety manager reported it around 8:30 a.m.
“Explosive K-9s were utilized in a search of the area and two separate alerts were noted on a job site tool box,” Jones said.
The immediate area was evacuated. No evidence of a bomb was found, and the CP2 site was cleared by State Police.
“No shelter in place was deemed necessary and no roads were closed,” French said. “Now it’s a criminal investigation.”
The State Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU) is the primary state agency with regulatory and statutory authority for hazardous materials and explosives. Technicians assigned to ESU respond to, mitigate and often remediate incidents throughout the state, ensuring citizens are not exposed to any undue risk of hazardous materials or explosives through strictly enforcing and investigating incidents, according to information from the State Police.
