Hornets hold off Delcambre

On Wednesday, Apr. 30, the Grand Lake Hornets hosted the Delcambre Panthers in the second round of the Division IV Non-Select playoffs and it was a battle!

Neither team could score until the bottom of the 3rd when Law Faulk knocked a single into left field.

Then two batters later Rylan Young stepped up to the plate and hammered the ball over the left field fence for a two run homer to put the Hornets up 2-0.

Despite a late 6th inning rally by the Panthers, it would be short lived as Grand Lake’s defense stepped up in a big way and defeated a very good Delcambre team by a final score of 2-1.

Law Faulk was 2-3, Rylan Young was 1-1 with 2 RBIs, and Wyatt Wilkerson was 1-2.

The Hornets will now travel to Welsh for a quarterfinal matchup and a chance to punch their ticket to the state tournament!

Geaux Hornets!

Hornets/Hounds played in quarterfinals

The Grand Lake Hornets baseball team travel ed to Welsh Wednesday, May 7, to take on the Welsh Greyhounds in the Division IV Non-Select quarterfinals with the first pitch at 5:30 p.m. at Sportsman’s Park in Welsh.

The Hornets and Greyhounds did not play each other during the regular season which is unusual. Especially after playing in the same district for two years. Nevertheless the Hornets are definitely familiar with the Hounds and understand how good of a team they are this year. Welsh is the #2 seed in the bracket while the Hornets are the #7 seed.

If the Hornets can pull off the road win in Welsh then they’ll punch their ticket to Sulphur for the first time since 2022. If they do so then they would play the winner of DeQuincy and Vinton in the state semifinals which will be next Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. on Field 40.

We want to wish the best of luck to the Grand Lake Hornets on their quest for a state championship!
