MINUTES
The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in Regular Session on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the Cameron Parish Police Jury Conference Room in Cameron, La. The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. with Vice Chairman, Carolyn Miller presiding. Carolyn Miller led the prayer, and Telesha Bertand led the Pledge of Allegiance.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Carolyn Miller, Vice Chairman; Michele Long, Secretary; Joe Ann Labove, Vicki Little, Geralyn Myers, and new commissioners Susan Boudreaux and Telesha Bertrand.
ABSENT: None
GUESTS: Cindy Snead, Cameron Parish Beachfront Development District 1 Commissioner, Secretary
PUBLIC COMMENT: None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the previous meeting were distributed to all board members via electronic mail prior to the meeting and published in the Cameron Pilot and on the Cameron Parish Tourism website. Upon motion by Joe Ann LaBove, seconded by Vicki Little and carried, the June 4, 2024 Minutes were approved as presented.
CORRESPONDENCE:
LOS Birders will return in October for their fall meeting in Hackberry.
Three new companies, Conoco-Phillips (Carbon Capture), OnStream (Carbon Capture), and Delphin (Floating LNG) are planning to establish operations in Cameron Parish and are interested in community involvement.
Conoco-Phillips donated $10,000 to the Tourist Commission.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Upon motion by Telesha Bertrand, seconded by Susan Boudreaux, and carried, the board accepted the June 2024 financial report as presented.
REVIEW AND PAYMENT OF BILLS: Upon motion by Joe Ann Labove, seconded by Geralyn Myers, and carried, the board approved payment to Work Designs for two sets of business cards for new commissioners $68.50.
OLD BUSINESS:
Ratify Recurring Charges: Upon motion by Michele Long, seconded by Telesha Bertrand, and carried, the board approved recurring charges for the Dev. Department and the Cameron Pilot.
Work Designs Tent Update, Business Cards, and Promotional Items:
Vicki Little reported on the updated design of the tent canopy/background/side panels. Upon motion by Michele Long, seconded by Telesha Bertrand, and carried, the board approved the updated overall tent design with Work Designs.
Upon motion by Vicki Little, seconded by Joe Ann Labove, and carried, the board approved the reorder of 2000 hair ties for $600 from Work Designs.
Calendar of Events
Michele Long provided an update on the sponsorships and success of the Crab Festival at Holly Beach and the Independence Day celebrations at both Holly Beach and Rutherford Beach. The commission has granted a $2,500 sponsorship to the Cameron Parish Fishing Festival and will participate in Captain’s Night to distribute promotional items and support the Lion’s Club event. Additionally, the commission has also sponsored the Marshland Festival with a $2,500 contribution. Lastly, commissioners are encouraged to register soon for the upcoming LTA convention, scheduled for August 27-29.
Michele Long reported on the updated storage inventory.
Website & Trip Chat Business Update
Commissioners are responsible for identifying potential businesses in their districts that are interested in being featured on the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission website.
TripChat has received the spreadsheet from the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission website and is proactively contacting local businesses to invite them to partner with TripChat.
The commission is actively collaborating with the Dev. Department to integrate the TripChat app information into the Cameron Parish Tourist website and Facebook page.
Billboard Update
The Tourist Commission has sent a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) to the Creole Nature Trail concerning the billboard located on HWY 82 near the Texas/Louisiana border. Upon approval, the Tourist Commission will use Lamar Outdoor Advertising to place its advertisement on this billboard to welcome tourists entering Cameron Parish.
New Business:
Preliminary ideas for strategic planning were discussed for future leadership as the commission moves forward.
Announcements:
Cameron Parish Preservation Alliance-Community Foundation Southwest Louisiana meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 29th from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM at the Grand Lake High School Cafeteria.
The Lighthouse Run-Holly Beach is scheduled for October 26, 2024.
The International Coastal Cleanup-Cameron Beach Sweep will take place on September 21, 2024.
The Lighthouse Hayride is set for November 2, 2024.
