The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in Regular Session on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Cameron Parish Library, located at 10200 Gulf Hwy. in Grand Lake, La. The meeting was called to order at 2:00 pm with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Prayer was led by Ms. Johnson and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Dunaway.
Commissioners Present: Stephanie Rodrigue, Chairman; Carolyn Miller, Vice Chairman; Mary Johnson, Treasurer; Patty Boudreaux, Secretary; Tunie Dunaway and JoeAnn Labove.
Absent: JoAnn Nunez

Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the Minutes of May 17, 2023 were approved as presented.
Treasurer’s Report: Ms. Johnson reviewed the YTD Financials and Expanded General Ledger submitted in a new format to more accurately include items received and posted after monthly reports are finalized. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the financials were approved as presented, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part thereof.

Old Business:
Occupancy Taxes: Ms. Rodrigue mentioned that the police jury office will attempt to establish a cooperative endeavor between the permitting office and licensing done in the tax collector/sheriff’s office to ensure that new businesses have the proper licenses to operate and are fully informed of occupancy tax requirements as provided by state statute.
Website: Ms. Rodrigue requested that commissioners review the website for incomplete and incorrect information and outstanding issues will be brought to the attention of Dev Dept.
Promotional Items: Ms. Boudreaux showcased the new promotional items received and reviewed pricing for new items. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux and seconded by Ms. Dunaway, and carried, the commissioners approved an order of 1,000 etched fish carabiners; 500 LED Light-up Yo-yos; 1,000 cooling towels with price comparison for this item, not to exceed $4.75 per towel, with preference given to local business; as well as 1,000 Push-pop Glow-in-the-dark Flyers, with price comparison for this item, not to exceed $4.00 per flyer.
Shirts: Ms. Boudreaux will obtain clean full-color logo and submit to Southern Screen-printing for an additional polo and t-shirts for commissioners.
New Business:
Summer Activities: Commissioners discussed various upcoming events with representation and promotional items at each event.
Strategic Planning: Ms. Rodrigue requested that the financials be obtained in an Excel spreadsheet, rather than a pdf format, to be used to track spending and budget planning.
TripChat: Ms. Rodrigue requested that emails be obtained from local businesses in each area of the community so that an information campaign can be sent from TripChat, reflecting the membership of the Cameron Parish Tourist Commission, and encouraging membership from local businesses as well.
Louisiana Travel Summit: Ms. Rodrigue requested that members complete registration for the travel summit to be held on August 29-31, 2023. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the commissioners approved payment by the Cameron Parish Police Jury Treasurer, for all summit-related expenses.
Recurring Expenses: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Boudreaux, and carried, the commission approved payment by the Cameron Parish Police Jury Treasurer of all previously-approved and recurring contractual fixed charges, as well as variable charges for recordation of the minutes by The Cameron Pilot.
Cameron Fishing Festival: Ms. Rodrigue requested a sponsorship at the same 2022 level. Lions Stephanie Rodrigue and Patty Boudreaux recused themselves from the decision. Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, commissioners approved the payment of a full-page ad in the Cameron Pilot, a $1,000 sponsorship, as well as a presence at the festival with promotional items.
The next meeting will be held in conjunction with the Cameron Lions Club “Captain’s Night” and Lighthouse Bend Ribbon-cutting and soft-opening ceremony being held at the new location on Davis Road at Noon on Thursday, July 27, 2023.
Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 3:36 pm.
