Andrew was called home on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025 to be with his Lord and Savior, after a long battle with dementia.

Andrew Benoit was born in Cameron to Sidney and Anastazie Benoit on Jan. 26, 1951.

He graduated from South Cameron High School and held many different jobs.

Andrew had a big heart and loved to help anyone in need. He was known as a “Gentle Giant” by one of his caregivers. Andrew loved to spend time with family and friends. He also loved animals and playing the guitar.

Andrew is survived by his brothers Floyd (Carolyn) Benoit of Grand Lake and Donald (Michelle) Benoit of Lake Arthur; his brothers-in-law, Richard McClelland and Norman (Barbara) Elliott; and sister-in-law, Barbara (David) Wehling; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 40 years, Joan Elliott Benoit of Warren, Texas; sister, Glenda McClelland; nephew, Matthew McClelland; great-nephews Nathaniel Soileau and Bryan McClelland; great neice, Hartley Benoit; his parents, Doris and Gleance Elliott; and brother-in-law Clinton Elliott.

Services for Andrew will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa on Friday, Aug. 29. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., followed by a rosary at 3:30 p.m. and mass at 4 p.m.

We would like to thank the staff of Camelot Brookside Nursing Home for loving and caring for Andrew during his last months.
