Park and ride closes, road work continues

The Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to make efforts to improve the traffic situation throughout the Parish. Meetings are ongoing between area residents, officials, industry liaisons, business owners and the Sheriff’s Office.

Venture Global closed the park and ride in Calcasieu Parish north of Chesson’s. Chesson’s is located at 1005 LA 27 in Bell City.

“We are currently running three extra units every morning and evening during peak hours specifically to enforce traffic regulations,” said David French, Public Information Officer, CPSO.

In May, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced roadway and drainage work on LA 27 near Shawnee Road to 2,500 feet south. Motorists can expect a traffic shift, with one lane of travel being maintained in each direction. Intermittent lane closures may occur, with flaggers directing traffic.

The closure is necessary for Venture Global to widen the existing roadway to install a southbound turn lane. Work will continue through Oct. 1, according to the DOTD.

In the last quarter, April 1-June 30, there have been a total of 73 traffic accidents throughout the Parish; this includes both minor and major incidents. Two resulted in a fatality.
