In the Saturday, July 27 election for Republican and Democratic Senator in Cameron Parish, a total of 60 votes were cast for Democratic candidates with 36 of those votes going to the runoff winner “Jamie” Davis. Gary Crockett received 24 votes. In early voting, Gary Crockett received 7 votes, 41 percent and 10 citizens early voted for Davis, giving him 59 percent of the vote.
A total of 528 votes were cast for Republican candidates John Fleming and Julia Letlow. She received 311 votes and was the overall runoff winner. John Fleming received 217 votes. Letlow received 86 early votes. Fleming, 72.
Total registered voters at this time in Cameron Parish is 4,329.
“We’ve combined as many precincts as we can combine,” said Kristin Saltzman, Cameron Parish Registrar of Voters. There can be only so many miles between precincts.
