POLICE JURY
BUDGET MEETING
OCTOBER 14, 2025
The Cameron Parish Police Jury met in regular session on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in the Cameron Parish West Annex Board Room in the Village of Cameron, Louisiana at 1:10 o’clock P.M. for the review of the 2026 Budget and to hear budget requests. The following members were present: Mr. Ronald Nunez, Jr., Mr. Michael Fewell, Mr. Magnus McGee, Mr. Mark Daigle, Mr. Sam Bordelon and Mr. Johnny Watson. Mr. Ron Johnson was absent.
Kayla Johnson, Treasurer, reviewed the 2026 Budget with the jury and answered any questions concerning the report.
Mr. Nunez, President opened the floor for 2026 budget request.
Mr. Johnny Watson spoke with the jury about a possible allocation to rebuild the Klondike Fire Station instead of repairing it because the new truck that was donated from Hackberry fire does not fit in the current one, and it’s possibly cheaper to rebuild instead of repair. He will get specifics and bring them back to the jury.
Kara Bonsall, Coastal Zone Administrator, addressed the jury and requested the jury enter into a CEA with Gravity Drainage District No. 3 for the North Cameron Flood Protection Levy. FEMA’s allocation is for $625,000.00 and the bid came in for $1.6 million, therefore asking jury to fund money for this project.
It was moved by Mr. McGee, seconded by Mr. Daigle, and carried, the board hereby authorizes, empowers and directs the president to sign a Cooperate Endeavor Agreement with Gravity Drainage District No. 3 for the North Cameron Flood Protection Levy.
It was moved by Mr. Daigle, seconded by Mr. McGee, and carried, the board hereby authorizes Kara Bonsall to ask Gravity Drainage District No. 3 for 20% of the upfront cost for the North Cameron Flood Protection Levy.
It was moved by Mr. Daigle, seconded by Mr. McGee, and carried, the board hereby authorizes the treasurer, to use the interest from the Coastal Zone Lawsuit settlement fund to cash flow the North Cameron Flood Protection Levy.
It was moved by Mr. Watson, seconded by Mr. McGee, and carried, Resolution 1222 Supporting Local Option Authority Regarding Carbon Capture and Storage Facilities is hereby declared duly adopted by the following votes:
YEAS: Ronald Nunez, Jr., Magnus McGee, Mark Daigle, Sam Bordelon, and Johnny Watson
NAYS: Michael Fewell
ABSENT OR NOT VOTING: Ron Johnson
With no other discussion or action needed, it was moved by Mr. Fewell, seconded by Mr. Watson, and carried, the budget meeting was adjourned.
