Joseph Doxey, Jr.

Joseph Walter Doxey Jr. who resided in Orange, Texas passed away on Nov. 13, 2025 at the age of 90 years. He was born on Feb. 12, 1935 in Grand Chenier where he grew up and flourished through most of his life growing a beautiful family, building a business and serving in various community affairs for the community of lower Cameron Parish in Southwest Louisiana.

He graduated from Farragut Military Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla. He attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston before joining the United States Navy. After honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Cameron Parish and married the love of his life, Joann Rutherford Doxey. They together built a beautiful family, cultivated their business, Doxey Marine Service, and ranched cattle near Rutherford Beach road. They were committed to the community there in Cameron Parish for more than five decades and created many wonderful memories there.

Jay was passionate about ‘all things’ in Cameron Parish including the people, traditions, ancestorial ties and industries such as fishing and seafood, oil and gas, cattle and agriculture. He was a member of the Grand Chenier Methodist Church. He thoroughly enjoyed duck hunting, oyster fishing, gardening and music as choir director at his church. He was a wonderful husband and father to his wife and children.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joann Rutherford Doxey; son, Joseph Arnold Doxey; son, Duncan Howard Doxey; father, Joseph Walter Doxey Sr.; mother, Dora O’Bryan Doxey; and five siblings.

He is survived by his daughter, Deane Denine Gasway and husband Bradley Gasway; his son, Walter Bryan Doxey and wife Teena Bromell Doxey; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

This man was highly committed to his family throughout his full 90 years of life. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed. He has passed over to be with our Father in Heaven and we are forever grateful he has a place of peace there.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at J.E. Hixson & Sons, 3001 Ryan St, Lake Charles on Thursday, Nov. 20, beginning at 10 a.m. followed by services at 1 p.m. Burial services will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, 6325 Common St., Lake Charles.
