Cameron Parish School Board met Monday, Nov. 10

Cameron Parish School Board met on Monday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. at 510 Marshall St., Cameron for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

The following school board members were in attendance: Marsha Trahan, Dist. 1; Christie LaBove, Dist. 2; Mitchel Kelley, Dist. 4; Vickie Kiffe, Dist. 5; Sharon Picou, Dist. 6 and Joseph Delcambre, Dist. 7.

School board members who were absent: Randall Faulk, Dist. 8 and Telesha Bertrand, Dist. 3.

After the meeting was called to order by Vickie Kiffe the Prayer and Pledge were said.

Members moved to approve the agenda and the board minutes of the Oct. 13, 2025 regular meeting.

Motion carried to approve public notice of the following:

Notice is hereby given in compliance with La. R.S. 42:19.1, that the Cameron Parish School Board, Cameron, Louisiana, will meet in open and public session on the 10th day of Nov. 2025, at 5 p.m., at School Board Office, 510 Marshall Street, Cameron, Louisiana, to consider calling an election to be held on May 16, 2026 in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, for the renewal of the levy and collection of two ad valorem property taxes, currently being collected, for the purpose of giving additional support to the maintenance, improvement and operations of the public elementary and secondary school system in Cameron Parish.

Motion carried to approve and move forward with securing new cloud based security camera system for a 5-year upgrade. A demonstration was given by LRG/Motorola Representatives. Sheriff Chris Savoie pledged to give assistance in helping with a cost reduction and hopefully in the future completely absorb the cost later. He stated the dynamics of this system was worth the cost of saving one life or preventing any future incident(s). He emphasized the CPSO is committed to being a good partner with protecting our schools.

Motion passed to accept Act of Sale on 510 Marshall Street, Cameron with subject of approval of changes by legal department. Plans are to start vacating the building as soon as possible. Future CPSB meetings will be held at the Cameron Police Jury Annex Building.

Motion carried to approve right away agreement to Platte Energy/Black Bayou on Western Shell Road.

Motion carried to approve revisions to Policy JBE – Truancy.

Motion carried to move the December meeting date to Monday, Dec. 1.
