Hornets’ season ends at Welsh
On Wednesday, May 7, the Grand Lake Hornets traveled to Welsh to take on the Welsh Greyhounds in the Division IV Non-Select baseball quarterfinals.
The Greyhounds would strike early scoring three runs in the first inning then two in the second and one more in the third.
The Hornets were held scoreless until the 6th inning when they would score three runs. But the rally was short lived as Welsh held off Grand Lake by a final score of 6-3.
Law Faulk was 1-3 with 3 RBIs, Zac Manuel was 1-4, Rylan Young was 1-4, Kasen Quinn was 1-4, Matthew Fitkin was 1-1, and Jaxon Busby was 2-2.
Rylan Young pitched 5.2 innings and recorded 6 strikeouts.

Hackberry Boys Track won state
For the first time since 2021, the Hackberry Mustangs boys track team has won the state championship.
Hackberry scored 112 points to beat two time defending champ Gibsland-Coleman by 16 points.
Senior’s Grayson Duhon, Ely Walker, Wyatt Poole and Tyler Lejeune accounted for 41 points. Walker won his fourth consecutive discus state championship (147-4) and defended his shot put title (43-2 1/4).
Head coach Angie Little said the distance races also played a key role in the Mustangs’ title run, especially the 3200 meter run that earned them 14 points. Devin Murphy won the 3200 (11:21.97) and 800 (2:13.21), and Lane Gray was the 1600 champ (5:05.16). Hackberry won the 4×400 relay in a school record time of 3:47.80.
The Hackberry Girls track also competed very hard earning 2nd place in the 4×400.

Johnson Bayou State Track meet
Dallas Sandifer placed 1st in pole vault, 9-11 3/4).
Lyida Trahan won her first 400 dash state title with a time of (1:04.04), she also placed 5th in the 100 and 5th in the 200.
Abbygail Corner placed 2nd in the 800 meter.
The girls 4×4 relay team placed 3rd.
The boys 4×4 relay team placed 4th.
Duncan Young placed 8th in pole vault.
Parker Sandifer placed 5th in the discus.
Bella Trahan placed 5th in the discus and 4th in the shot put.

South Cameron Track team went to state
The South Cameron High School track team competed at the state meet in Baton Rouge last week. Some Tarpon athletes broke their personal best records.
BreAnn Morales also placed 2nd in the pole vault.

LaBove is state javelin champIon
Grand Lake High School’s Justin “JJ” LaBove won the Class 1A Javelin state championship last week at the state meet in Baton Rouge.
LaBove’s throw was 184.7 feet which is one heck of a toss!
