Curtis M. Nunez, born in Chenier Perdue on June 24, 1928, son of the late Adonile and Mary Conner Nunez, passed away Saturday, Apr. 27, 2024, at the age of ninety-five.
Curtis proudly and faithfully served in the U. S. Army and was the recipient of the Bronze Star., Presidential Unit Citation, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupational Medal & Japan Clasp, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal & Silver Star, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, United Nations Service Medal, Honorable Service Label Button WWII, and the Marksman Badge & Submachine Gun Bar. He and wife, Vergie, were members of St. Phillip Neri in Kinder. He was co-owner of Nunez Hardware.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Vergie Nunez; children, Rod Nunez, Shanna Nunez, Janice Crochet (Valmond), Karl Nunez (Leisa), and Trudy Broussard (Robert); siblings, Preston Nunez (Rita), and Barbara Nunez; grandchildren, Jesse, Bryant, Jarrett, Tyler, Garrett, Tressa, Scott, Niki, Karlee, and Bralen; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Whitney and Wilmer Theriot; siblings, Perry Nunez, Elry “Big” Nunez, Avery Nunez, Will Nunez, Mary Jane Nunez, Jeanette Clayton, Shirley Mhire, Ina Armentor, Irma Granger and Martha Faye Vincent; and son-in-law, James Duddleston.
Funeral services will be held in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa on Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Roland Vaughn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Little Chenier Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.
Visitation will begin Thursday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 4 until 9 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. and will resume Friday in the funeral home from 8 until 10 a.m.
