MINUTES
The Cameron Parish Tourist Commission met in regular session on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the Cameron Parish Courthouse – Judge’s Conference Room. The meeting was called to order at 3:33 p.m. with Chairman, Stephanie Rodrigue, presiding. The Prayer was led by Ms. Johnson and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Dunaway.
Commissioners present were: Stephanie Rodrigue, Chairman; Tunie Dunaway, Vice Chairman; Carolyn Miller, Treasurer; Patty Boudreaux, Secretary; and Mary Johnson
Absent: JoAnn Nunez and JoeAnn Labove
Guests: N/A
Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Ms. Johnson, seconded by Ms. Miller, and carried, the minutes of the November 10, 2022 meeting were approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Ms. Miller reviewed the monthly financials for November. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Dunaway, and carried, the financials were approved as presented, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part thereof.
Payment of Bills: N/A
Correspondence: Ms. Boudreaux reported that the Louisiana Ornithological Society mailed a letter of thanks to the commission, however we did not receive it. The Cameron Parish Police Jury office will be contacted to establish a system of gathering mail sent to the commission.
Old Business:
Ms. Rodrigue reported that she continues to be notified that DevDept is working on the visitcameronparish.org website.
Ms. Rodrigue will contact TripChat to begin the process to establish 15 points-of-interest at an annual cost of $7,500.
Ms. Boudreaux presented samples of promotional items received for visiting queens. Hair ties should be in shortly and will be picked up and brought to storage. The quote for a tent setup is still pending.
After some discussion regarding the replacement of community signs that were damaged during the storms, a request was made by Ms. Rodrigue to table the request. Upon motion by Ms. Boudreaux, seconded by Ms. Dunaway, and carried, the request to fund the damaged signs was tabled.
New Business:
Louisiana Fur & Wildlife Festival:
Ms. Rodrigue presented a request for representation at the Louisiana Fur & Wildlife Festival’s Fur Fizz to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Cajun French Music Association “CFMA” Building on Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles.
In lieu of manning a table at the festival, commissioners agreed to offer promotional items as parade throws for the Cameron Parish Police Jury parade float.
Ms. Miller and Ms. Johnson volunteered to work the ID booth on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the day of the festival.
Ms. Boudreaux volunteered to arrange and deliver bags for festival royalty at the pageant being held at South Cameron High School on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
Other New Business:
Ms. Miller reported that she had picked up additional brochures for Shelling, Birding and Experience Guides from the SWCVB to replenish our supply.
Ms. Boudreaux reminded members that Ethics and Sexual Harassment Training is due by year-end.
The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2023 at 4:00 p.m., ahead of the Louisiana Fur & Wildlife Festival’s “Fur Fizz”, at the CFMA Building on Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles.
Upon motion by Ms. Dunaway, seconded by Ms. Johnson, and carried, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
