Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival

Established in 1955, the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival honors a local industry each year. The honor rotates between Hunting & Wildlife, Fur & Alligator, Oyster, Fishing, Crab, Cattle, Oil & Gas and Shrimp. King Fur is selected to represent the honored industry. Fur Queen is chosen from candidates representing the fur producing parishes.

The two-day festival includes these contests: dog trials, trap shooting, muskrat and nutria skinning, duck and goose calling, oyster shucking, and trap setting. Carnival rides, a parade, good music, and great food also provide entertainment.

The festival exchanges delegations each year with its “sister festival,” the National Outdoors Show in Cambridge, Maryland. The Fur and Wildlife Festival is held in January.
