Irwin Stine

Irwin Carrol Stine, 89, died on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.

He was born in Moss Lake was a lifelong resident of Sulphur. He left Sulphur High to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He served for three years in the Seabees, a U.S. Navy Battalion. He returned to Sulphur and graduated from Sulphur High School. He began a career for Mobil Oil that spanned 37 years, beginning as a utility man and retiring as a construction superintendent. He continued his education by attending McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Institute, and employer sponsored education programs to become a welding and construction inspector.

He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a past member of Vincent Settlement Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Havens Stine of Sulphur; three sons, James Stine of Singer, Coy and Dana Stine of Singer, and Barry and Elise Stine of Hackberry; one daughter, Carolyn Stine Hunt of Sulphur; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irwin E. and Lydia Stine; two brothers; three sisters; and one great-granddaughter, Raelyn Marino.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur.

Rose Miller

Rose Marie Swire Miller, 77, of Hackberry died on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at a local hospice facility.

She was born in Sulphur.

She is survived by her three children, Gary Miller, Gerald (Jennifer) Miller and Cheryl (Peanut) Whatley, all of Hackberry seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Burt Swire, Wilson Swire, Eugene Swire, Earnest Swire and Junior Swire.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Rose Louge Swire; husband, Stanford Miller; son, Greg Miller; and several siblings.

A memorial service was held at Hackberry Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

Chase McCall

Chase Allen McCall, 28, of Westlake fought a courageous battle with cancer and passed away on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018.

He was born in Lake Charles and lived most of his life in Westlake. He was a 2009 graduate of Westlake High School. After high school, he worked as a hydro blast technician and was a commercial fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Mayra Luisa Soto-Zambrano McCall; parents, Dale and Teresa McCall of Westlake; sisters, Tracy Fittz Martin and husband Eric and Stacy Fittz Elliott, all of Westlake; and grandfather, Hershall Jordan of Longville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pete and Diane McCall of Grand Chenier; and Norma Jean Mcvay of Westlake.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Sept. 10, at St. Eugene Catholic Church in Grand Chenier. Father Clyde Thomas served as celebrant. Burial followed in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Grand Chenier.

Roger Seamons, Sr.

Roger DeWane Seamons, Sr., 74, died in a DeQuincy hospital on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018.

He was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles and a 1963 graduate of LaGrange Senior High School. He learned his trade through the Local 106 Plumber Apprenticeship Program, working through the local his entire life, and was presented his 50-year watch in December, 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene “Pat” Seamons; two sons, Roger DeWane Seamons, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Grand Lake and Shanin Clay Seamons and wife Melissa of Moss Bluff; one daughter, Tracy Lynn Abshire and husband Mark of Lake Charles; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Ellen Robideaux of Grand Lake and Cynthia Ann Primeaux of Grand Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald DeWane Seamons and Thelma Jewel Andrus Seamons

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Johnson Funeral Home. Rabbi Barry Weinstein officiated. Interment was at Highland Memory Gardens.
