Sarah Prentice

Sarah Myers Prentice, 86, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at a local nursing facility.

Sarah was born in Winnebago, Neb., and lived in Lake Charles for many years. She was a retired bookkeeper and served as a pastor’s wife in Forest Hill, Cheneyville, Cameron, and Grand Chenier. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Sulphur.

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband Henry Prentice; father, Claude Myers; mother, Mary Myers; brother, George Myers; and sister, Kathryn Menard.

Sarah is survived by her sons, William Randall Prentice and wife Tammy of Pollock, La., and Thomas N. Prentice and wife Dawn of Heath, Tex.; daughters Susan Key and husband Randall of Sulphur and Julie Prentice of Sulphur; her 10 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren; and sister, Mitzi Seilhan.

Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, at Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com

Mary Cirello

Mary Geraldine Lowery Cirello, 97, a long time resident of Newport Beach, California died Thursday, March 29, 2018 in Toluca Lake, Calif.

Born September 8, 1920 in Hackberry, Mary attended John McNeese Junior College where she studied pre-med and chemistry but soon discovered she had a love of flying.

Mary was a descendant of the original settlers of Southwest Louisiana.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Agnes Elender and Ernest Lawerence Lowery; her siblings Leo, John Anthony "J.A.", Loraine, Lauris Earl “Buddy Boy”, Arthur Lee, Peggy, Doris, Clerfa John “C.J.” and her beloved husband of 61 years Anthony Michael Cirello.

She is survived by her brother Ernest Lawerence “Jr.” Lowery; children, Natalie Jean (Graham) Bloxham and Thomas Lawrence Cirello; 6 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Apr. 3, at the Pacific View Memorial Park.

As Mary was a long time member of the Soul Sisters, the family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Soul Sisters at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport Beach, Calif.

Betty Ashworth

Betty Stanley Ashworth, 85, a resident of DeQuincy died on Tuesday, Mar. 27, 2018.

She is survived by her children, Carol Buxton and husband, Prentice of DeQuincy, Dean Stanley and wife, Bonita of Johnson Bayou, Kirby Stanley and wife, Aimee of DeQuincy, Mark Stanley and wife, Janie of Rogersville, Mo. and Winford Stanley and wife, Candace of DeQuincy; along with 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Allen Ray Brown and wife, Jeanette of Fields.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Winford Stanley and James Ashworth; parents, Allen Ray Brown and Virginia Cooley Brown; one grandson, Nathan Kyle Stanley; and two brothers, David Brown and Ronald Brown.

The family received friends on Friday, Mar. 30, from 5-8 p.m. at Riley Smith Funeral Home in DeQuincy and the funeral service was also be held at Riley Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, Mar. 31, beginning at 10 a.m. Bro. Vance Perkins officiated. Interment followed at Hyatt Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
