Shirley Dunham

Shirley Lorraine Miller Dunham, 97, died Friday, Mar. 2, 2018. She was born in Grand Chenier. She lived in Grand Chenier until she married. Shortly after marriage they lived in Beaumont, Thibodaux, and Port Sulphur. She then moved to DeQuincy. She helped her husband with his dry cleaning business. From DeQuincy, the family moved to Shreveport, and then New Orleans. After her husband retired from the Army-National Guard, they returned to Grand Chenier, where they lived for over 20 years before moving to Plano, Texas.

She is survived by her four children, Jo Raye (Bob) Masengill, Fred “Sonny” (Polly) Dunham, Nell (Bob) Bartels, and Peggy (Ronnie) Prevost; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Dunham; parents, Raphiel and Georgia Nell (McCall) Miller; siblings; and great-grandson, Stephen Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be given to Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home or a charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 7, at Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Chapel. Rev. Kevin Smith will officiate. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday until time of service. Burial will follow in the Royer Cemetery in Sulphur.

Delores Holden

Delores C. Holden, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018. She was a native of Hecker and a resident of Indian Village. She was a member of Indian Village Baptist Church where she was a bookkeeper for over 20 years.

Survivors include two children, Dewanna Manuel and husband James of Kinder, Brian Holden and wife Selina of Kinder; brother, Ernest Fontenot of Hackberry; and five grandchildren.

She wea preceded in death by her husband, Eurshel Holden; and daughter, Kimberly Marcantel.

Funeral service was held Friday, Mar. 2, at Indian Village Baptist Church. Bro. Kevin Willis officiated. Burial followed at Green Oak Cemetery.

Joseph Abshire

Joseph Lynn Abshire, 69, of Carlyss died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 in a local care facility.

He was born in Carlyss.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Courmier Abshire of Carlyss; two children, Melissa Ellender and husband Brad of Hackberry, and Dee Dee Abshire; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Abshire; two sisters, Elaine Huck and Della Jean Vallette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Enos and Della Mae Abshire; and one brother.

Funeral service was held on Sunday, Mar. 4, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jom officiating. Burial was in New Hackberry Cemetery.
