David Doland, Jr.

David "Billy" Doland, Jr, 83, of Grand Chenier died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, in a Lafayette hospital.

Billy was born in Grand Chenier and graduated from Lake Arthur High School and McNeese State University with a degree in agriculture. He was a lifetime member of the Louisiana Cattleman's Association and past president of the Parish Cattleman's Association, he served on the State Livestock Advisory Committee, and the Louisiana Livestock Sanitary Board. He was a member of the State Brand Commission, Cameron Parish Farm Bureau, St. Eugene Catholic Church, Grand Chenier Drainage Board, and the Coastal Restoration Committee. Billy also served on the State Board of Directors for Farm Bureau. He had dedicated his entire life to raising cattle in Cameron Parish and started producing commercial beef cattle while he was still attending high school. In addition to managing his own cattle business, he had also managed his parent's cattle business until their death. His family name has been synonymous with the cattle industry for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Velma "Papoose" Doland of Grand Chenier; his children, Donna Broussard and husband, Randy of Hathaway, Debra Manuel and husband, Mark of Hathaway, David "D. D." Doland and wife, Melania of Uvalde, Texas, and Sandy Vincent and husband, Kim of Pecan Island; one brother, Bobby Doland and wife, Cheryl of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Marjorie Richard, Pat Doland, and Dr. Barbara Coatney.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, in McCall Cemetery in Grand Chenier. The Rev. Clyde Thomas officiated.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Eugene Catholic Church Hall in Grand Chenier.
