Blane Broussard

Blane Dale Broussard, 62, of Westlake died Friday, Sept. 28, 2018.

He was born in Lake Charles and worked the water ways for more than 40 years. He started out as a deck hand with his father and worked his way up to captain for the last 30 years. He held numerous certifications.

He is survived by his mother, Yvonne Broussard of Lake Charles; daughters, Kayla Broussard, Jamie Kulick and husband, Jarrett, Crystal Broussard and husband, D.J., all of Lake Charles; brothers, Doug Broussard of Westlake, Jesse Broussard Jr. of Longville, Johnny Broussard of Lake Charles, and Gene Reese of Big Lake; sisters, Melinda Broussard and Rhonda Mareno, both of Lake Charles and Linda Brinton of St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven grandchildren and one on the way; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Broussard; son, William Chase Broussard; and father, Jessie Broussard Sr.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Gary Eavers and Rev. Ray Hundley officiated. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery in Lake Charles.

Helen Myers

Helen Kay Myers, 66, of Lake Charles, died p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 in a local care facility.

She was born in Lake Charles. She was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Lee Fontenot and wife Amber and Wallace Ray “Bubba” Fontenot and wife Lacey, all of Ragley; one daughter, Tessia Minix and husband Shawn of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Robert Hebert of Big Lake and Donald Hebert of Moss Bluff ; three sisters, Dorothy Goodwin, Betty Wilson, and Judy Riley, all of Texas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daisy and Adam Hebert; and one brother.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. David Lilley will officiate. A Rosary will be held at 12 p.m. Burial will be in Grand Lake Community Cemetery.

Visitation will begin on Friday at 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Carroll Stoppel

Carroll Sue Stoppel, 81, of Sulphur died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at her home.

She was a care taker.

She is survived by her children, Russell H. Stratton Jr. and wife Stephanie Lynn of Moss Bluff, Roy Alan Stoppel and wife Charla Diane of Big Lake, Roslynn Ann Stoppel of Sulphur, Ross Allen Stoppel of Peru, Ind., Renee Adaline Stoppel of Tulsa, Okla. and Curt Stephen Stoppel of Los Angeles, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one sister, Ida Lee Broussard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Walter Leon Stoppel; and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 12 p.m. until time of the service.
