Governor declares state of emergency for Louisiana

Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Louisiana in anticipation of a tropical storm or hurricane developing in the Gulf of Mexico this week, with landfall likely somewhere on the Louisiana coast over the weekend. “No one should take this storm lightly,” he said Wednesday, because heavy rain can cause serious problems even away from the landfall area. Police Jury voting meeting changed to 11 a.m.

The final design of the Cameron Parish Shoreline Stabilization Project (rocks for Rutherford, Little Florida and Long Beaches), will be presented and discussed at the Police Jury’s 10 a.m. agenda meeting on Thursday, July 11. A vote to approve the project will take place at the voting meeting immediately following. The Jury will also hear a Venture Global project update and receive the 2018 financial audit. Read More

Fishing Festival set for Aug. 2-3 in Grand Chenier

The 16th Annual Cameron Fishing Festival August 2-3, sponsored by the Cameron Lions Club and Venture Global LNG, will have a new venue this year: Grand Chenier Park on the Mermentau River in Grand Chenier. The Festival has moved from its traditional location at the Cameron Jetty Pier Park because of industrial construction, but all the familiar attractions will be on tap, and possibly some new ones.
